Okay, so I just got it confirmed that work is sending me to Frankfurt, Germany for several days in February. Has anyone been there or know anything to do in the area that I can't find on the typical tourist pages? I'm very anxious to see the museums, but I'm curious about anything else to do while I'm there. I will be working for two of the days, but I have three more that I'm being left on my own due to cheaper cost of the plane ticket to stay through the weekend. Any suggestions?

I have heard that the beer is supposed to be kinda good over there.

And the Reisling Wines........something about the special grapes they use.

Wow! Sweet. I hope you get some time off while you are there to do some site seeing. The countryside is supposed to be just beautiful.

Lived in that part of Germany for 2 years while in the Army. Granted, most of that time was spent in Bosnia and Macedonia, but I did get out to Franfort on occasion. The coolest bar is the Golden Crown. They do a fairly good gothic / industrial show on the weekends. That was, however, several years ago.

Awesome restaurants. Forget the beer. You are in wine country. As Celtic Smith stated, the rieslings there are phenomenal. I have one bottle still left from my favorite vineyard and I would advise you to take as much back to the states with you as possible as you will never find anything comprable here. I have looked.

Have fun. I am so jealous!

And hey, what do you know, that was a GOOD thing about being in the Army! I got to go to many places I never would have been otherwise and enjoy the hospitality of other cultures! Germany is so beautiful and friendly. You will have a lovely time :)

I always felt so sorry for the guys that never left the barracks (and there were a lot of them). It was like they were afraid to take the train or drive. I spoke very little German if any, but how much German do you need to know to take a train or oder a beer or a donar kabob? Oh sweet jebus, I miss the food there so much. I lived on donar kabobs and turkish pizza whenever possible. The Turks did that stuff so much better than the Greeks. Needless to say, I spent most of my military career on the "Fatboy PT Program."

I'm jealous, too.
My brother-n-law went to Germany about 4 years ago for business...I don't think he really got to site-see or anything, tho. I guess they were really busy.
I hope you have a good time!

Ooooo Jen, that is nifty!

I have never been to Germany, or out of the states for that matter, but I think they got some good weenier snitzle over there.
Bring me back a magnet. I don't have one from Germany.

Have fun! Stay safe! Don't drink the water.

Thanks for the advice guys. Since I'm not a beer drinker, I will definitely be taking advantage of good wine. Rieslings are one of my favorites. If there are any particular labels that you recommend, please let me know. Shadow, I will definitely bring you back a magnet.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to do that. While I am flying in and out of Frankfurt as well as spending 4 of the 5 nights there, two days and one of the nights will be spent working at the plant in Lauterbourg, France.

Don't despair about France.

I've only had a chance to spend a little time in Paris, but I loved it.

France has some of the best food in the world.

(that's not to disparage Germany, of course. German food is great too.)

Just accept that you're about to gain a few pounds, and enjoy!

I have to say that I look forward to the pastries of France.
