Club 735 on Bourbon
The Whirling Dervish on Decatur

Or, for more band/bar places...

Check Point Charlie's on Decatur
Buddha Belly - 4500 block of Magazine (right across from Nothing Studios)

Personally, I preferred the Buddha Belly.....

Have them check out http://www.nolagoth.com
Its the new website for the area that does a good job with keeping up with the dance nights as well as local shows, eateries, shopping, etc.

The following are only in my opinion.

Best place to go dancing: Whirling Dervish (most nights) or 735 on Thursday nights (Pop 80s on the first floor and darkwave 80s on the third floor)

Best place to just hang out: Mythique (coffee/bar above the Dervish), Molly's (coffee/bar on Decatur) or The Orleans Grape (wine bar with some really good food as well across from the Bourbon Orleans hotel)

Best place to eat of the ones I've been to: Brennan's Redfish Grille (a little pricey, but well worth it)

Best 24 hour place to eat: Coop's or Angeli's on Decatur

Must dos: Cafe du Monde for coffee and beignets (just watch out for the powdered sugar when wearing black)

Damnit, now you're making me want to go back again.

~sigh~
I'd love to go back and stay longer...just a little longer...3 days was no where near enough time to go everywhere and see everything.
And that was my 2nd time.

mythique was crowded, dim, but the atmosphere was good.

735 was decent
the whirling dervish...i did not like...the vibe was all wrong

checkpoint charlie's....bar, bands, pool table..crowded

the buddha belly was cool...low key bar, more interesting shows, good conversation and billiards

sir d, do you remember the name of the little bakery/deli that abby, you and i got breakfast at?
really really good blueberry beignet's....

i didn't get to try Cafe Du Monde's...but i did find the mix to make them at Kroger's.
lol
=)

and just walking around and talking to some of the locals, was pretty interesting in and of itself.

Agreed on everything in this thread... will add one more to best foods: If you are into Sushi hit the Samuri Sushi on Decatur almost next to the House of Blues.... The eel there in to die for!

I had the pleasure of going to the Shim Sham a couple of times. Sadly, it closed at the first of July. The managers of the Shim Sham have since taken over 735 on Bourbon St, although its not quite the same.
