New Pirate Raid @!!!.....

So i was just watching the matrix revolutions, right, and i think that
'ol neo is onto something...take the fight right to the heart of enemy territory!
therefore....
I think the next "pirate raid" should be at COTTON EYE'd JOE'S
That's Right!
Cotton Eye'd Joes!
This raid will seperate the men from the cowards!
By my calculations they play more goth music than sanctus anyway, so why the hell not go?
I'm thinking friday, november 14th. 10 pm. I'll go all in black. That's right, i want to see a crowd of goth'd out muthaf%@*ers!
So who's brave?
Who's brave?
I have a list of people i want to see there!
I'm remembering TWD's philosophy "we dress this way to get a reaction, if there's no reaction, it's like-what's wrong?"
(or something like that..)
So that's my proposal, i'm thinking a lot of you are going to stay quiet on this, but come on, let's do it!
This would be the ultimate pirate raid!!

So did we.

Must we dress "goth?" The best way to infiltrate a system is to blend in initially. And Dominion and I will consider it, if you promise to line dance... or barn dance... your choice.

not that this isn't a great a idea and potentially full of yummy good fun. there is a reason that i never step foot into CEJ's, and its not to keep from, scaring people( i don't find myself that scary anyway), its because they scare me, that whole place scares me. i fear that i would end up in a corner rocking back and forth, chanting shit like"find a happy place" and while sucking my thumb, hell i would prolly be deep throating my thumb at that point. so i guess i'm a pussy.
besides all the really big, dumb fratboy/jock types always hit on me in places like that.

It's really not that bad. I used to go there every Thursday night (ladies night 75 cent drinks til 10... I don't know if they do that anymore). But that was back when I was going to Mercury. I've been there a few times since, and I always have a blast. I've never been to a club (that isn't goth in nature) that isn't full of jocks that try to hit on you. It's a great source of amusement... finding new and interesting ways to shoot them down (my favorite is using big words).
You should try it, at least once. It's only a club, after all.

I believe in the power in numbers here.... but still, the thought is somewhat sketchy. My idea was to raid chuckecheese, but it was a bit more complicated then I thought it would be. I guess it depends on who is going, though, CEJ's has never been a warm fuzzy for me..

Ok...am I the only one who doesn't know what a "pirate raid" is? At leaste in the modern term? Or are you all really planning on sailing out to sea and boarding random people's boats?
And before you make fun of me...remember I am from Michigan and have never heard of this before.

I agree with Arkady.....
Besides, they have a strick sexually defined dress code. They'd probably let the girls in all gothed up, but they turn the guys away at the door.

Ok, nevermind! Iblis and Imp explained the whole "pirate raid" thing to me...

A pirate raid (a term brought to KnoxGothic by Celticsmith) is similar to sailing out to sea and boarding boats.
A sizeable contingent of KnoxGothic members travels to another city (we haven't got a ship yet, so we're currently reduced to driving) and boards their goth night. We've been known to outnumber the locals on occasion.
We typically kidnap their people and bring them back. (Just look at the number of Nashville people posting here, and the number we've actually dragged out to Sanctus.)
In this case, the term is being aplied to a local venue, and a very non-goth one at that, so I'm not sure it's actually being properly applied - you'd have to ask Celticsmith about that.
In any case, I think this raid idea has
some amusement potential, but would require hearing country "music" to carry out, and I'm not sure that's an acceptable trade-off.
I think that to be really successful, this raid would require a large number of participants (at least 50) and would need to be carried out in full dress, en masse, and early in the evening (so as to avoid the cover charge). I'm not sure that can be carried out, it would require a great deal of coordination.

Damn skippy. There's no way in
hell that I'd pay cover to be assaulted by country "music".

Depending on the outfit, it might be possible to get in wearing "street clothes" over your preferred outfit, then we could all reveal our Goffdom in unison. Granted, we'd probably get mauled, maimed, and thrown out, but that's why I agree with dodging the cover charge by going in early. Imagine, the regular patrons of old Cotton Eye finding themselves in the midst of a whole slew of dark and spookies. Fun! Fun! Fun!
However, I don't know if this would be so much as a "Pirate Raid" as a "Trojan Horse" attempt.
Admittedly, it's also possible that I'm having a massive brain hemmorage right now, and will look back at this post and say, "What the
fuck was I thinking?!"

Strangely enough, I think it's become a real debate. I think Balance only meant it as a joke, though.
(It did accomplish something, though. It got me to add "What is a pirate raid?" to the
FAQ.)

If ONLY the Village People would play there again. That was more fun than ANYONE could hope for at CEJ's. Just imagine the biggest Gay band in the world playing at Knoxville's biggest redneck joint.... *sigh* to many laughs were had that night

As far as I'm concerned, there's not much of a difference between the two.
As long as it's for laughs, I'm game.

That happened?! When did that happen? You were there? How funny.
I think it's okay because one of the VP is a cowboy, right?

I think it was back in 98 or 99. And yes i HAD to go to that one... managed to get front row even lol... something about the crew I went with that no one wanted to get in our way... (if anyone remembers Tom Crandle, Bill Harris and my X-wife from Mercury/ Neptune days they might understand) In fact the cowboys gave us about a 3 foot girth where ever we went in the club.
Heh ... just remebered when we opened the stock exchange across the street.. I opened the first night with our speakers outfront blasting the parking lot with RevCo's "Beers Steers & Queers" just for the CEJ's crowd
AAhhhh fond memories involving CEJ's never thought I would say that...lol
