I just lifted this post off the Electrogarden, thought you author types might be interested in this:

-------------------------------------------

"Hi everybody, this is Todd at A Different Drum. I'm officially announcing a new project that the label is working on which is quite different from anything else we've done before.

We want to release a short story collection (book) that comes together with a CD of theme songs for each story, which will be recorded by different label bands. The short stories are going to be in the sci-fi genre, and the working title is "Listen to the Future".

For now, we're looking for short story submissions for the project. If you're an author or like to write as a hobby, or whatever, feel free to look over this homepage for more information:

http://www.adifferentdrum.com/scifistory/

If any of you know of good sci-fi forums where aspiring authors hang out, let me know so I can make the announcement there too. We'd really like to make something special with this, combining literature with music for a really fun experience :-)

Thanks,
Todd

Hope you guys find this all interesting. :)

Good call, Traveler. There needs to be a stated deadline as well as a word limit. "Cannot be too lengthy" is not helpful. A word count range is needed. Also, it's not stated whether reprints are accepted.
Question: What, exactly, is the theme for the stories?

A suggestion for posting on SF writer boards:
"Good" and the phrase "SciFi" don't go together...
If it's good, it's SF or Science Fiction.

well you could just put you fantasy scape on a different plant nowadays that qualifies it as Sci Fi.

Fantasy on a different planet(at least I hope thats what he meant, on a different plant? like sagebrush, yeah fantasy on a tumbleweed)... hmm what a concept, maybe I should create a world... wow, what an idea...

»The Fallen drips so much sarcasm he drowns himself...

errr yeah planet :selfbonk: (ofcourse you could use infinit small and large then you could put it on a plant like the dark tower series) (then you would be fantasy/sci fi/horror)

Hey ...

I'm attempting to get Todd Durrant (the label head at A Different Drum) to come on here and answer all questions. In the meantime, if you drop an e-mail to todd@adifferentdrum.com he should be able to answer any questions you have about the sci-fi project. As far as I know there's no real limit on the subject matter of the stories.

Sorry for any lack of clarity on that invitation. I've updated the info page to give a couple more specifics.

7500 words is a good target. A bit more or less is OK. We just wouldn't be able to fit a short novel :-)

The latest we could review submissions is the end of February. That's not much time, but an opportunity came up to present this at a nice sci-fi convention, and we're pushing to get it done in time.

Thanks,
Todd

Thanks for the clarification on that Todd. We've got some talented folks about. I am sure you'll get some good stuff from them.

Yes, thanks. A definite deadline & word count range is a must.
Please please stop using the term SciFi if you want writers to take you seriously!
