Johnny "Take this Job and SHove it" Paycheck.
He did some great older country music, did some time in jail for shooting a guy in a bar brawl, a break in his carrer due to jail time, then started recording again.
I've got a CD of his in my player now.
That sucks that he passed, what did he die from? Any causes resleased?
According to the press release:

He also wrote "Don't Take HEr She's All I Got" Widowmaker, I'm the only Hell My Momma ever Raised, among others.
The man who he shot, apperently he shot in the head and did 2 years for it.

oh, well in that light it's not surprising that i'd never heard of him.
the only celebrities i tend to pay attention to are engaged in death matches.

I believe that "Take This Job and Shove It" was actually penned by David Allen Coe, though Johnny Paycheck did the most famous rendition of it. He was a part of the Outlaw movement/era in country music, celebrating living hard lives outside the law. He ran away from home at 15, travelling around the country hitching rides on boxcars, playing in honkeytonks for beer and a bed. In fact, he was still pretty much doing exactly that same thing even after he'd had a few huge successes. The song i associate most with him is "Pardon Me, I've Got Someone to Kill," which is just downright crushingly depressing, though i guess the revenge aspect lightens the load a little.
Regardless, he was an underrated contributor to the early years of "insurgent country," and I'm pretty goddamn sad that he died.

johnny paycheck died of a bad heart i do believe iblis.
he also did some stuff with the highwaymen didnt he? i know he did a show with merle haggard. i used to listen to the "old country" wiht my grandpa as a kid.
although paycheck was cool, the original man in black, johnny cash, is way cooler.

Ladybee you're the coolest, I'll say that first.
Yep David Aleen Coe did write that. I was mistaken.
He wasn't one of the Highymen. The Highwaymen were/are Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. But he might have sat in on some shows.
He was one hardcore son of a bitch though.

yeah, i was going to say something about that song being david allen coes. everyone thinks its done by different people. . . hmm. whatever. anyway, too bad tha man died, but i never listened to him....never heard of him. which is odd since i do listen to (some david allen coe. and you would think that if you heard of one, youve heard of the other.

This weekend is the official Pinin' For PayCheck weekend (In the Waylin for Waylon weekend tradidtion. After he died I and some friends did Waylin for Waylon)
I will be going to a 'package store' to get some Southern Comfort with label. Hopefully that will do, I was going to get some Johnny Walker but that stuff is expensive at least for the good stuff.
Anyone care to join me any my buddies on this weekend, have your very own Pinin' for PayCheck weekend?
I'll be playing of coruse Mr. PayCheck songs and David Allen Coe, Robert Earle Keen Jr., Alan Jackson, George Jones, Willie, Waylon, Cash, Merle and a quite a few others.

Man, that sounds like a helluva time. Too bad I'm all full up with shit to do already this weekend. Enjoy the hell out of it though, bud. Drink double since I can't be there!
