Today, I got an e-mail in my personal acct (the 1 4 close friendz & family...not the acct I list on sitez) from "Orlok" updating info on The Black Ball. I find this very odd considering that I am NOT a member of the private forum which may not be named & have NOT been asked 2 bcum 1... not 2 mention that I did NOT EVER give that e-mail addy 2 said organization.

Personally, I could not care less about the drama & conflict over this Forum/group/event... go... don't go... whatever! However, I do not appreciate this liberty being taken with my personal e-mail acct. Besides, I have already made it quite clear that I am almost never available on Saturdayz, n e way. I'm saying this here, because as a non-member of the other group, it'd b kinda hard to tell 'em there (& they'r all here n e way).

So,... Orlok, please, cease & desist e-mailz 2 my personal acct If u feel the need 2 send me further info, ... please, send it 2 thestormstress@yahoo.com az per my profile.

LOL...I suppose Orlok just wanted to make sure everyone who doesn't check upcoming events knows about the venue change...

Chris and I are also interested in how these emails are arriving. He is no longer a member of Knoxgothic, and obviously not the private forum which may not be named, but he received the announcement in his personal AND school email address, which is reserved strictly for professors and other students. This is severely unappreciated. The information about the change of venue is mentioned in MANY areas of this forum, even the Dumpster. You have no right to invade our privacy, especially about something as trivial as where your club night will be held. How much animosity can you create surrounding this event?

I'm sure of that. Any email from KG, even private messages, are always address as Admin@knoxgothic. These came from "Orlok."

I know you support this forum and this night. HOWEVER, people do have a right to insist on privacy, period. And yes, I have a spam filter that did not catch this email. Nope, this one is actually valid. If you don't want the KG mailer, you can request for it not to be sent to you. This was just plain disrespectful.

You do know that if you receive an email from someone you can REPLY with another email. Even ask them not to send any more to you(just an idea).

And if you didn't care about the drama or conflict you would have sent a email back telling them not to send anything to that email address and that would have been the end of it. Instead , you chose a route that will cause more drama and animosity.

From the KnoxGothic.com rules:

4. All advertising of community events posted by KG users will be placed in the Upcoming Event’s forum. Event announcements placed in any other KnoxGothic forum will be moved to the Upcoming Events forum by a Mod. If you want the event added to the calendar, or the announcement sections at the top of the index page, contact arkady@knoxgothic.com via email at least 48 hours in advance with the word “Community Event” as the subject. FYI This rule may be occasionally broken only the KGB, life just kind of sucks that way.

This is NOT a new rule, it's existed for quite some time. Since the the private forum which may not be named crew never even asked the KGB for permission to post the event in General, I see no reason why they should not be required to observe the rules.

And I know we've been accused of not observing this rule for other events, but I can assure you that I've personally moved several events out of General in the past few months.

Stormstress, thank for starting this thread; it means that I didn't have to. TheSym & I both got the spam (no offense to the person Spam) from the private forum which may not be named at our private email addresses that could only have been accessed through KG.

I really don't appreciate being spammed and I believe that the rules of KG specifically prohibit this type of abuse.

Also, Jonathon, I'd like to point out that my known screen id did not receive the mailer; however, my second & third, and the Sym's, did.

None of those identities, TheSym or my second and third, have the email function turned on.

So, I have to guess that either "Orlock" used the KG email list, without KG's permission, or, actually got into our hidden profile information somehow.

Chris received two spam messages at email addresses which have NEVER been registered with ANY forum. How the hell does that happen?

Question: Does this board have an publicly viewable Privacy Policy?

Looking at the private information is not the issue... it's the fact that someone used the private information for use other than what it was intended.

I am not sure if this is someone of the board violating the policy or if someone has gained access to this information.

I would look into whom might have access to the lists of private information for the board and restrict that to a very limited number of people. If it is a "hack" it also needs to be addressed on how the said person got into the information.

Apologize to angry parties and and figure out what steps need to be taken so this situation will not happen again. An update in the Privacy Policy might be in order to cover some of the issues that might stem from this event.

I know if i got an email with the word "Black Ball" in it at Dell I would be up a creek.

Having a dissenting opinion about an issue that affects the whole group is not drama, stirring drama, or instigating drama.
Speaking out when you feel that your (or someone else's) trust, privacy, or person has been abused is not drama.
