:bump:
AFI- black sails in the sunset
the people who ask why i listen to this album so much just havent heard it. period. they go EWW didnt they get some airplay IM TOO UNDERGROUND FOR THAT!?!? hah. not this album man. love it.

superjoint ritual- a lethal dose of american hatred
metal album of the year. period. fucking great. another of those albums for people who are *REALLY* angry. another misunderstood band trying to get people to remove these new and ticking time clocked trends that need to hurry and die.

cash- solitary man
probably my favorite of the american recordings albums this week, next week it will be another one....

Son of Sam - songs of the earth
davey havok + danzig's guitar player for d666 + 2 members of Samhain in a Samhain inspired band. im in a really bad samhain kick lately, trying to tone it some with this cd.....

A Perfect Circle-13th step
im REALLY reserving judgement on this one.

resurrecting an old thread...i always got more info out of this one than just 'what are you listening to now,' since people would take a bit more time choosing their five and talking about the choices a bit.

Here's mine:

Babybird--Ugly Beautiful
Brilliant post-80s P-Furs-y, OMD-ish soaring gay pop music, with lyrics like Morrissey on PCP wrote them. I adore this CD.

Lucero--That Much Further West
These Memphis cowpunk boys are getting less angry and more depressed the more albums they put out, but you can still hear their roots stretching back past the Pogues. This album comes with a bonus disc of angrier, harsher live versions of every song.

The Executioner's Last Song compilation
An album of murder ballads, both classic and new, featuring the bands of Bloodshot Records and affiliated artists. Includes an awesome cover of the Adverts' "Gary Gilmore's Eyes."

The Raveonettes--Chain Gang of Love
If the John Waters movie Cry Baby had a torrid Natural Born Killers-style murder-spree love affair with a Rus Harper chopper-chicks flick, this album might be the soundtrack.

Firewater--The Man on the Burning Tightrope
Psychotic gypsy circus freaks got utterly shitfaced and made this brilliant album, I'm convinced of it. Calliopes, melodeons, trombones, and good old-fashioned rock instrumentation too...I love it.

Five quickies from me that have been getting a lot of play recently:

Firewater - Get Off the Cross We Need the Wood for the Fire. Got to agree with your last choice ladybee. The new Firewater is an excellent cd. I highly encourage you to go buy their first, Get off the Cross, We Need the Wood for the Fire. You may want to avoid the Ponzi Scheme however and the 3rd, the name of which I forget. Both pale in comparison. With their fourth release they finally got back on track, but the first is still their best in my humble opinion.

World of Skin - Ten Songs for Another World. A Swans sideproject from Gira and Jarboe. Less experimental in nature than many Swans releases. An oldie but a goodie.

Psychic TV - Live in Berlin V2. Best of the acid house era live recordings

Sonic Youth - Dirty. Been getting an awful lot of play out of this one lately. One of my few cassette tapes. Not on par with Daydream Nation, Evol, Sister, or Goo, but not total trash either. It takes a long time for a Sonic Youth album to achieve classic status with me, but this one is coming along just fine.

Laibach - Wat. One of my absolute favorite bands. This is their latest and has been growing on me quite a bit. I'd been hoping for a return to their more experimental and orchestral - one might say Wagnerian - side, but if electro dance stuff is what they are into now, so be it. They do that pretty darn well too.

Psychopharmacology.

I own everything they've released, as well as the C$C stuff and the new Shot'Nez side project. (Incidentally, they played up here on Dec 5th--which quite possibly might have been the best live show I have ever attended, definitely in the top 5, and blew the last time i saw them out of the water.)

I personally love Ponzi Scheme for "Knock 'em Down," "I Still Love You Judas," "So Long Superman," and "Misery Loves Company," though I'm give-or-take on the rest of the album, and Psychopharmacology...well, I appreciate what the goal was on it, but it's my least favorite of the four albums.

As for Get Off the Cross..., I would be hard-pressed to name a song on it I don't adore. The ones that get the most airplay when I DJ are "Refinery," "Bourbon and Division," "Isle of Dogs," "Mr. Cardiac," and "Balalaika."

Good to see another Firewater fan here!

revived this thread because im bored and ranty

Jesu - Jesu.
post godflesh, best depressing artsy noise album ive ever heard. its kinda swans-ish but better than any swans ive ever heard. this is album of the year for me, i dont care what comes out and how good you say it is. this is my pick. already.

today is the day - temple of the morning star
when frustrated to the point of death, this album is a requirement. the really great thing about this album is steve austin, the guy who wrote it, usually only writes albums when hes sucidial and tries to capture everything on tape. he fired TWO band line ups while writing this album because they just werent as abused as he was and wouldnt allow him to abuse them more.... the drummer last in played drums on this album as a form of rehab and the bass player (so called) ended up learning notes and playing the album on whatever instrument steve told him too because he kept locking the door to the studio and holding him at loaded gun point
the vibe shows in this album, released unfinished so it would be left as noisy as his head. theres a better album for what my head sounds like by this band, sadness will prevail i just played it to death last week and i like some of the sounds on this album better even though sadness will prevail is a better album... (end rant)

nine inch nails - pretty hate machine
requires no explanation

type o negative - mix cd of life is killing me and world coming down tracks.
newly single guys my age grab type o like its a gut reflex.

danzig - circle of snakes
desolate. low tuned landscapes of hell. esp skull forrest and netherbound. i kinda picture alot of this album playing on the boatride across Styx.

nirvana - with the lights out disks 2,3.
alot of good depressing b-side songs i havent heard since high school. esp d-7 and some of the unreleased in utero tracks
