There is no strict criteria for who the old fogies are around here. Some are well known and others are more sneaky about it. Ophelia is one of the latter, since she doesn't look old enough to be an old fogey by any stretch of the imagination. This is both amazing and creepy since she was out and about when I first appeared and we just happen to be the same age.
I probably fall in to the former catagory since I actually look somewhat older than I did back then and somehow my reputation preceeds me. Both a mystery to me and a reason why I have tried to be inobtrusive for the past few seasons.
In either case we have each been kicking around the scene for 8 or more years and have seen at least 3 or more permutations of said scene. (Haha bad pun.) I always thought I was on the younger side of the old fogie group so a good rule of thumb could be:
Knoxville Old Fogey (nocks-vile-old-fO-gi) n. - An individual who has remained in the Knox County or surrounding area subcultural scene for around 6 years and has witnessed 3 or more social pemutations of said subculture. Permutations usually include a change of venue and other organizational changes within the subculture.
So yeah, chances are she is older than you, but definately not old enough to be your mama.
One could also say that Knoxville Old Fogey could be used as a synonym for grumpy old clubber permanantly disgruntled with 'the state of the scene'.
Although I would hope that isn't the first association people make.
Oh and Happy New Year eveyone.

It occurred to me that the current older group is a significant portion of people that go out and participate. So this probably defeats my rule of thumb. However it also points out that this is the most diverse group of old codgers to ever try to keep getting along. Makes me wonder what the AARP will be like by the time we qualify for it.
I can see it now, in big purple text on a black banner :
Welcome to the 1st annual AARP Gothic Ball.
Motto: No such thing as 'Too old to be Goth.'
That's enough thread jacking for now...Sorry

Thank you , gray. Couldn't have said it better myself. What I meant by "old" in Knoxville's scene is folks that remember Mercury and can still describe the graffitti on the bathroom walls. Most of us have moved on, moved away, or simply changed their tastes. Although I am much different than I was then, I am still around, and remember many people that I still see out, and how much we have changed. And, yes, there are much older folks that post on this board.
Power electronics, my friends know my age, and I'm sorry if my statement was the "gayest" thing you've ever heard. My suggestion is: try to get out more. Or quit insulting me. My post was not addressed to you.

I'd be interested in knowing who you are, since you have known me for so long but don't know how to spell my name!
