Chancellor Palpatine - "turn to the dark side"
Anakin Skywalker - "no!"
Chancellor Palpatine - "no, really, turn to the dark side"
Anakin Skywalker - "ok"

OK.....Mike was really wanting to see this, so W/we went to the matinee today to see it. BORING!!!!!!! Once again, i nearly fell asleep. i thought the acting really SUCKED.....especially the guy that played Obi Wan! Yes, Natalie Portman got on my nerves too. i've never really liked her as an actor anyway. i normally like Samuel L. Jackson as an actor, but i thought his performance left alot to be desired in this. Guess i'm just not a Star Wars junkie.

Actually, I thought the guy who played Obi Wan(i can't remember his name) did a good job. He didn't try to reinvent the character, but rather acted like Alec Guinness. Now, as for Hayden Christiansen and Natalie Portman... Well, here's a basic summary of how all of their conversations went:
Natalie Portman wrote:I can act.
Hayden Christiansen wrote:I cannot.

Ibbie, you just implied that the Wheel of Time books are better than the original Star Wars trilogy.
You are batshit fucking crazy. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
I stopped reading pulp sci-fi and fantasy in higschool, but before I did, I started the Wheel of Time books, and thus have felt compelled to keep reading them, even though I've moved on to far better things. I enjoyed the first seven for what they were - extremely long-winded, often pointlessly padded-out pseudo-epics where every character is beyond cookie-cutter (especially the females, every single one of which is some manner of manipulative bitch - Robert Jordan has got some seriously old-fashioned and twisted views on gender wars). But starting with book 8, the whole thing has fallen apart, to the point where the latest book took, what, 700 pages to tell literally a week's worth of the story?
I'll never argue that the original trilogy was High Art, but compared to Jordan, it's fucking Shakespeare.
(That said, I did get a kick out of seeing the re-release of the original Star Wars in the theater, on mushrooms, and coming up with all these great theories about how it's a parable telling the story of the hippies - "rebels" - vs. The Man - "the Empire" - complete with Obi-Wan in the role of Timothy Leary "turning Luke on" to "the Force" )

I loved Celticsmith's screen saver film of the Borg assimilating the Empire. *evil giggle* Resistance is futile.
