I really don't see how emo kids, as bad as they are, are any worse than hot topic goth kids.

If you forced me to choose between listening to Death Cab For Cutie or listening to Slipknot, I'd pick the former without even hesitating.

That said, "emo" is a myth anyway. It was a bad joke 7 years ago, when people said that Fugazi were the "first Emo band". There is no such thing as emo music.
