im a firm believer in if you dont like what you see, dont look at it.
But isn't that a catch-22?
How can you determine whether or not you like something without looking at it? By then it's too late, you've seen it.
LOL
There's also that whole "Thy Brother's Keeper" thing too - "Oops, serial killer, don't look & I don't have to tell!"
Never mind, most people operate on the "if I pretend I didn't see it, I won't have to do anything about it" philosophy already...
Well, yes Catch 22 was a groovy TV show in the 70's.
And I like looking at train wrecks, but I only have myself to blame if I have nightmares. Capeche?

Actually, Catch-22 is a classic novel by Joseph Heller.
The original statement was "if you don't like what you see, don't look at it," so the train wreck analogy won't work.
The point of the problem with the "trolls" is that we cannot decide if they are trolls or not without reading what they post. You cannot simply ignore one or two members. If the posts upset you, don't read the forum. However, it does irk me when well known members get edited while known trolls get sympathy. Some people are obviously sarcastic, and others are openly trying to be malicious.

But wasn't the whole point of this thread that Shadow is against paying attention to Logic and presumably Reason and Fact (if we had a poster named Fact), as well?

No JaNall, the reason behind my question and post, was simple, however you folks are over thinking it. I read whomever I want, form my own opinions and decide how I will react. My statement was also simple, if you know a certain member will upset you, then why read that person't threads?
Honest it is that simple. For example, I don't like to read romance novels, therefore, I don't buy nor read them.
I don't feel I need dictionary words to express my feelings or thoughts. This is after all a message board, dont like my posts, skip over em.
As for the Catch-22 portion, it was a lame joke to referance Room 222 from the 70's.
Please stop assuming that I am stupid. I am not, I just like a bit of humor with my life.
Not my fault sarcasam does not translate well through the written word.

I don't think anyone is implying that you are stupid at all. I originally quoted Junkie, just to play devil's advocate to his statement. I totally understand what you are saying, although I think it is hard to skip over people's posts and still keep up with what is being said in the thread. I think the debate over this "logic" character has gone on long enough. He has openly attacked other members, ignored the rules of this site, and why he hasn't been dealt with is beyond me.

I understood you and do agree with what you have said.
"shrug" I don't have any clue as to why he has 2 screen names or has not had anything done other than a hand slap. I am just glad that I am able to state my own opinions on the board, regardless of who or what wants to read them. Thank you for always being civil and open-minded.

That policy only applies to KF. There are too many users on here to attempt to limit the number of accounts a user may have.
If you create a new account just for the purpose of attacking someone, it may get all your accounts banned, though.

<sigh>
I want to make this very clear. I don't like banning users.
I would prefer to have my permanent ban count where it was last year - zero.
That was not possible, unfortunately - but I'd rather not ban anyone else if I don't have to.
I'll point out that in this case, Logic was warned not to attack other members, and he stopped the attacks. He's still got a very visible black mark under his name, as a warning to other users about his past.
If I were to ban everyone on here who has once attacked someone on here, I'm afraid this forum would be a rather dead place. You would even be on that list yourself. I'd probably even have to ban myself.
So, no - no ban for Logic - unless he decides it's time to attack someone again.

If the posts upset you, don't read the forum. However, it does irk me when well known members get edited while known trolls get sympathy. Some people are obviously sarcastic, and others are openly trying to be malicious.
And as far as editing goes, I try to be as objective as possible. I don't have time to read every word, nor do I have time to read every post. I wish I did - but I do have a day job and a girlfriend, and KG sysadmin doesn't pay anything. I try to read as much as possible.
I'll also point out that some well known members are also known trolls on here - they post to stir the shit, and I sometimes let them get away with it. (no, I'm not putting you into this category.)
It's been a very long time since I've edited anything you've posted, and I try to avoid editing the posts of well known members if I can justify it. It's even been quite a while since I've edited AuralFixation, and everybody knows he's just some troll in Colorado. (Yes, that's a joke. But we did give him the Dumpster for a reason.)
The point is that I don't think the purpose of KG is to provide a place free of everyone who is a bit offensive to someone else.
By the way, the next version of the forum software will include an ignore feature - you'll be able to create your own ban for particular users so you won't be able to read their posts.

Oh, and one more thing - this one applies to everyone.
If you do feel another user has posted a personal attack, DO NOT REPLY TO IT!
If you reply with an attack, and an admin looks at the thread, they have a choice - they can do one of three things:
•Edit the thread
•Sanction everyone in the thread
or
•Do nothing
If there are no replies to an attack, it's clear as to who is edited and sanctioned. Once fire is returned, the situation changes, especially since the "do not respond to an attack with another attack" policy has been in place on KG since the beginning.
So, send a message to a moderator, with a link to the thread in question. DO NOT RETURN FIRE. IF YOU DO, YOU ARE JUST AS GUILTY.

I think people should be able to say whatever they want to say!
If it hurts someones feelings, who gives a shit. Its not like you get your feelings hurt on a daily basis in real life. I think we are all mature enough to handle our problems and know how to speak up when something bothers us. I think the law of editing someones conversation is stupid and makes this forum look elementary.
Everyone should stand up and fight for what you want regardless of what it is. This logic character knows what he did and im sure he has been punished for it enough. You guys have been talking about this crap for weeks now. I say work on a 3 strike system!

It seems with the Catch-22 bit that one should regard trolls similar to the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. All we need is a towel!

For once I actually agree with you... I haven't seen any of his posts lately so maybe he is realizing his attitude toward people in general.

Vader- I understand your position and am actually surprised that you responded to my posts. I really am not that concerned. I think that debate is great, sarcasm is better, but I do not openly "attack" members. That is the only thing I thought was a problem. I think that the silly personal banter between grumpy old folks like myself is amusing. However, the posts that degraded and wished death upon soldiers, were unacceptable. It upset people on the board who truly care about those they love, and it is an entirely different situation than "I heard that so-and-so said this."
I never claimed or suggested "banning" anyone, and I (and apparently other members of the board) were not aware that the user had been reprimanded. I think that banning is usually unnecessary- I've been screaming that all along (as you probably remember). I think if you want to stir up shit, start with politics, or music, or some other ridiculous debate, but don't slander members of the board. I'm glad that the user is behaving- and hopefully he will learn a little more about interacting with others, especially strangers, and that will be a tool that benefits him in all aspects of his life.
