Mine's got so big I lost count, have had to burn it to disc three different times. Most of it is stuff I leeched off mp3.com before it died this month. I guess I am hooked.

Well, what happened was that Vivendi/Universal basically ran it into the ground, lost money on it, and had to sell it to C-Net. On December 2, everything on mp3.com went directly into the trash bin.
Dirty shame too. I was lucky enough to get a few mp3's, not to mention some CD's from them ... I suppose they'll be collector's items now.
Basically mp3.com has sucked for the artists ever since Vivendi got ahold of it. It used to be a means of promoting independent artists, but in the end it became a dumping ground for Vivendi's major label artists.
The trouble all started when mp3.com started their my.mp3.com service where you could have your CD scanned, and they would make mp3's off the CD available for you to download (as proof that you owned the CD) ... major labels sued mp3.com and settled, except for Vivendi, who litigated mp3.com until their stock value became so low from litigation costs that Vivendi ended up buying them outright.
Stinking rotten ratbastards.
