I remeber that shit. That was about the last straw for me and the lava. It didn't last too long after that but I do remember Second Skin, EvilTwin, and S.M.P. "ACTUALLY" playing their nights and doing well with bringing in a crowd. If people put forth the effort we may: be able to have a steady weekly night + the 80's nights+ skarieoke+ sanctus+ concerts worth going to = a multitude of things that will last all of maybe a year because of the short attention span/ lack of funds most of us know very well. I think my only real suggestion is to support bands/nights you think are good, talk to bars and don't just sit around looking for "something to do tonight", take the time to suggest things to bar owners, and scout around for ideas. If a club can make money off of a night they won't kill it. Instead the owner will mismanage funds and lose the club and that is why we have established bars. Who here has the money/ motivation/ honesty/ to start a club? ( this has been a public service anouncement)

its not a bad idea.
i been trying to start local music here in a few ways... but thats like a year off from happening....
we can start trying to get music to play here (that will happen quick, most acts need a place as bad as we want em here)
but start a club? man thats balls. thats goat balls. id like to see the shit go down though. i mean why the fuck not?
try to organize it, if i can lend a hand lemme know. im broke, but i can help gut a place and what not.......
merc......thats a good idea. why dont you save the money and spearhead it?

im getting a business minor and if i can get a good job here in comp sci i might be able to assist... but thats a year from now and too many tentatives too work.
so im out, but might surface later......
merc stay on this fucking idea....

You know why most of the nights at Lava had turnout?

Because David busted his ass promoting within the scene, and even without, and I recall a few of those shows being scheduled on regular club nights when people would turn out anyway due to force of habit.

Mercurygriffin wrote:good point. lets just try everything at least once and repeat the things that are enjoyable and maybe even please most everybodie in this so called scene.

experimantation is good.

as far as our own club-
I'm all for it.. hell - i'll kick in the first fistfull of ca$h..
its a good cause.. "contributing to the delinquency of a city"
put that on my gravestone.

tho - anyone care to guess a number?
i have an idea- and its not a small one.
and theres no gaurntee on return-
while it has the potential to pay for itself- theres a BUTTLOAD of work and $$ involved, everything form location, remodel, rig, stock, insure,
license, promote, and staff.
tho creativity could account for cutting some of those costs..

the trick, i would imagine, is making something that appeals to the majority of the crowd, and setting it up in a manner that everyone likes<read as - not piss people off>
look at reactions to the last sanctus- by and large- most liked the venue, from what i can tell, but the size/quality of inebrating libations created a bit of a stir.

IF the community wanted it to happen bad enough, and were willing to support the cause financially, morally, patiently, and voluntairly
<money, cheers, time and effort> it could happen..
and I for one, plan on being there if/when it happens.

not impossible-
not insurmountable-
challenging.

nothing worthwhile was ever easy.

Psst - Little girl! I'll give you a buck if you promise to ask daddy why mommy's goodnight kisses are so salty.
