Please sign the petition for captioning shows

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

WOW! Hey thanks I didn't even know that those weren't captioned anymore. I guess I don't pay attention enough.

Signed.
Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

I can't believe they pulled captioning off certain shows....I signed the petition, and urge others to do so as well. I was fortunate enough to learn some sign language as a child and have used it at every job I have ever had!

Done .Ive heard they are not captioning certain shows that would seem "Immoral"like "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", and "The Simpsons". This is completely ridiculous!

So I posted this on another forum and got several sigs.
This is one negative comment I got. Does anyone have a good response (besides f**k off)?

Okay, first of all, in accordance with a law established by the Federal Communications Commission in 1998, 100% of all new programming (and 75% of "old" programming) must be closed captioned by 1 January 2006. (This law works on a "phase-in" basis, requiring 25% of programming to be close captioned by 1 January 2000, 50% by 1 January 2002, and 75% by 1 January 2004.) This law is still in effect, there is no legislation pending that would amend or rescind it, nor is there any provision for charging viewers who use closed captioning services.

The Department of Education has absolutely nothing to say about what is or is not appropriate for view by anyone. That is the for the FCC only.

This "Petition" just doesn't sound right to me. I too suffer from tinitus, or ringing in the ears.

Has anyone seen this "Decision"? There is nothing at ed.gov discussing Closed Captioning in any context.
