I thought this would be of some interest. Any thoughts? I'm not certain how Chruch/State issues are handled over there but i could imagine this causing a row in the states

damn,that's interesting........
nothing like that would ever happen where i live.cleveland,tn. is the headquarters for the church of god.
ugh.a church on every street corner(literally).ugh.
at least people are becoming more open-minded about witchcraft, even if it is (or isn't) because of the harry potter series.....

When I was in Finland and Sweden, people where more open about things. I meet several people that still Practiced Asatru' ( The religion of the Vikings ) This is really neat that you pointed this out. For it is a very open society there, but still old world majik was looked down appon from the government. But still more open to the people, than in the USA.
No one is completely worthless...you can always serve as a bad example!!!!

It is a matter of documented fact that our American society is unwilling to embrace ideas which change the status quo ... this is even more so when you have an administration in power which is subsidized by the "Religious Right" ...
I suppose it won't change until we elect Howard Dean next November for President.

It would cause an uproar here. But I also wonder, is it her practice that is sanctioned (which seems to be the case) or her religion? Religious views weren't mentioned, and Witches are definetly not all Wiccan.
I'm going to see if I can dredge some more up on the subject...

You guys know how obsessed I am with Norway lol. I can get my friend to send me the paper from Oslo, he sends them everynow and then. I think it's interesting though, that as a pronounced Christian nation that they sponsored her... it says a lot about having an open mind.
Gossip's worth its weight in gold.

Nexxus brought up an interesting point. Did the government endorse her or a paticular religion? The way I'm reading it now it seems to sponsor her idea for a business more then anything.
Questionable note....Is Harry Potter really that big of a influence on the way people see Wiccan/Witchcraft/occult? From what I can gather out of the books the magic is more fantasy based on actual mystical principles.
