MAX 105.3 ... What's happening?

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

MAX 105.3 ... What's happening?

Post by Synthpopalooza »

I turn on 105.3 (the 80's station here in town) and I get a looped recording of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" with a voice saying "Something is happening in the West ..." etc.

What is happening?

I hope they aren't ditching their 80's format! If they are, I am going to be most upset. Anybody have any information about this?

I don't know, but I've turned to 93.1 for my 80's fix.

All their web site says now is

"New 105.3 website coming soon! Keep checking back!!!!"

This just sucks!!!!! The last five days have been a roller coaster of good and bad, and this is just BAD!

Not really, I use them to break up the CDs I keep in my car. I may listen to a radio station a total of a half a day per week.

For those who do not know I do believe that they are under new management now and that yes they are changing their format. sorry.

Love That Corporate Radio, post FCC liscense deregulation

Little to No local flavor, formats change as often as the chairman of the board changes underwear.

Anyone else knowtice that half of the major radio stations in K-town area have changed format in the last say month????

93.1, almost the River (format was saved but the staff was changed), 105.3, and the list goes on...

*sigh* I miss the days of locally owned operated radio

I was a loyal River lover...hated that they didn't keep all of the staff and unfortunately I have noticed that even though they said they were going to save the format, it seems they have changed it a bit to the tune of me not being so crazy about it. I might have to give the new 93.1 a listen and see how it is but I have a feeling it's back to listening to cd's all the time.

That figures ... !@#%^?

All radio has become these days is prepackaged tripe, thanks to corporate greed ... bunch of greedy assholes. The one decent radio station in this town, and now it's gone. This really sucks, and I plan on letting my opinion be known as well.

I figured it was too good to last anyway. Once greedy corporate idiots get their hands on something, it gets ruined. CD city for me.

I just got a reassuring message from Todd Etheridge, owner of 105.3:

[i]"Thanks for your concern. Well, we will not be only 80's anymore in a
few days. The 80's format had peaked some time ago and was starting
to drop every ratings trend. But hey, it made it for over 2 years.
So, after meeting with several people in recent weeks, we have
decided to take radio back to what it was in the 70's. Wide open
playlists and freedom to play great music. That doesn't mean all 70's
music. Not even close. The format will be based on Artists with
credibility. Be it Elvis Costello or be it Johnny Cash. Anything
goes. We are now the ONLY locally owned radio group, so we can have
the freedom to play great artists and get out and do more things in
the community. You'll be seeing alot more of this station. Two former
employees of The River (the real one, not the one calling themselves
that) have come to work here and are very excited about our projects.
We want to give listeners that sense of a station that is fun, free
to do what they want and involved with East Tennessee. We're the only
ones left that are actually FROM East Tennessee. There will be lots
of 80's stuff in the format, so hopefully you will enjoy it. Thanks
for sticking with Max for so long. We tried hard to make it go, but
after all, it's a business and it was starting to stall. Hang with us
and I think you'll like whats going on here. Oh by the way, the new
name will be WEST 105.3, "Radio The Way It Should Be".

This sounds good. Everybody, mail todd@wkvl.com and tell him you want the 80's stuff kept in the rotation, and also those 80's shows like House of Hair and Nina Blackwood's New Wave Nation. I think this station will still be worth listening to!

Hrm...I wonder if Sarah went there. I haven't listened to 105.3 so I dunno but if she did, I will be loyal to them. If I catch her online in the next couple days, I will have to ask her. *optimistic*
