File sharing
If you file share, whether is be Kazaa, WinMX or what not read this article. It is important and needs to be addressed.

This will never fly, there aren't enough prisons. There never will be.
Its like speeding, if I had to go to jail fo speeding then there would be 1,000,000's of people in jail, and the real criminals would be let free cause 'us speeders need to be taught a lesson.'
And how are they planning to monitor for 'file sharing,' wouldn't implementation of spyware be an invasion of my rights, etc?
And $15 million to the justice department to look for people is a fucking joke. they'd probably spend that much on coffee and paper clips.

There is no replacement for displacement.
According to the law proposed the people have to proof 4 things:
What was stolen,
How it was stolen,
who stole it,
AND (the best part)
Gee I wonder who it gonna give them that information? The record lables?

Sorry for the repetitive posts but check this out:
So according to the bill the material distributed has to have 10 copies worth at least $2500 total? Does that sound right according to this?
So songs are out, but software on the other hand is included.
(2) by adding at the end the following: ``For purposes of section 2319(b) of title 18, the placing of a copyrighted work, without the authorization of the copyright owner, on a computer network accessible to members of the public who are able to copy the work through such access shall be considered to be the distribution, during a 180-day period, of at least 10 copies of that work with a retail value of more than $2,500.''.

Thank you, Rob. My e-mail has been sent.
Everyone who votes has the right to speak out against or for any legislation. It is your right, now use it!!!!
Here is the copy of my e-mail to John Duncan:
I am send this letter in response to the introduction of legislation to make file sharing a felony. I believe this to be in violation of my and everyone else's right to privacy. My computer is just that, my computer. The government has no right to my personal property.
I am a computer professional. While I don't not engage in the illegal sharing of copyrighted material, I believe this bill would allow for the stopping of legitimate file sharing. I share files and papers with other computer professionals. These files are in no way illegal or copyrighted. They are simply for research.
I am requesting that you vote this bill down. It violates my rights as a United States citizen.
Thank You,
Steven Lewis
Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

okay... the overly analytical div has a comment. "... on a computer network accessible to members of the public... " means that the files must be publicly available. As in, wide open to the public - like a webpage on the 'net - anyone can go there completely unchecked. All of the peer-to-peer systems I've played with required you to have an account, or a membership. While the enrollment is open to the public, to have access to the files, you must be a member. Which, unless I'm mistaken, is a rather large loophole...

The way I understood it, was people who had thousands and thousands on their hard drive sharing were the big fish they were looking for. As long as the majority is in a file location that is not share-able they willl not go after someone with 10-15 files. That would just take too much money and time to make it worth it. Anyway that was how I understood it when they were discussing it on the news... and EVERYONE knows if it was seen on TV it MUST be real. ....... right?

Oh, JC, that first post was just sarcasm.
But we're not on the same side of any coin- I don't really care about all this file-sharing stuff. It's just media fodder, and not worth worrying about.
But, again, whatever.
