Get there in time to see the Shack Shakers' set as well. They are one of my alltime favorite live acts and put on the most punk rock fucking insane stage show, bizarrely including harmonica and the coolest custom standup bass.

One of my friends recently saw Alabama Thunderpussy and said they kicked ass. The sound sample he sent me was like, crunchy Black Sabbath vomit. (I mean that as a good thing.) I'd love to catch them on a bill with GWAR.

I'm coming through Tennessee in 2 weeks

So I'm moving to Los Angeles and I'm doing a big roadtrip to get out there--selling all my stuff by the end of the week and hopping in the car with my best friend LaRisa. We are driving down the east coast to visit friends in Philly and DC and Ocracoke and Chapel Hill, and then coming west across Te...

On a sort of related subject do any of you have the names or authors of any books on local hauntings or lost grave yards and such ?? Unfortunately their website is undergoing construction so it kind of sucks for looking at specific titles, but Overmountain Press has a whole category of their catalo...

Published!

I submitted a memoir to this, and received notification that it was accepted for publication! The anthology is supposedly coming out in November, so look for my piece in there. It centers around the Old City freak scene back in Planet Earth/Ella Guru's era.

Stateside at Patrick Sullivan's, June 5

Show announcement: Stateside with Mic Harrison at Patrick Sullivan's, CD release party, Saturday, June 5th. So, i accidentally caught Stateside on tour a couple weeks back and nearly crapped my pants at how awesome they were. I was there for the headliner ( The Love Scene , whose EP Blood is the New...

Lucero at Blue Cats, 5/7/04

Ok, so this band is not remotely goth--it's comprised of four guys from Memphis who started out in punk bands like the Vegas Thunder who now do some of the most asskicking and lyrically-tragic-beautiful southern rock you could hope to hear. If you like cowpunk/y'allternative music like the V-Roys an...

Congratulations!

I DJ'ed the Drac Ball for NYE in 1998, and I have to say, it was one of the top three gigs I've ever spun at--*huge* crowd of very nice people, lots of great outfits, enthusiastic about the music. Good luck and have fun!

Post-Captain by Patrick O'Brien. Just started on the Aubrey/Maturin novels after seeing Master and Commander. So far I'm finding it subtly hilarious, and full of good Age of Sail porn, as it were.

Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brien. Strange writing style, but full of enough homoerotic undertones to keep me gigglingly reading.

Published! Charles River Review and Harvard Summer Review!

I just had an essay come out in the Spring 2003 edition of the Charles River Review , entitled "Pageantry." It's about my grandmother passing away and us discovering in her effects a big box of clippings and photographs and articles and letters from when she was Mrs America 1946. I also had an essay...

I loved House of Leaves . Don't worry about "drowning in it," I think that is part of the point of it. It was initially conceived as i understand it, as a website project, so it's intentionally put together so that you can pick through it in the sort of self-directed almost-arbitrary way you peruse ...

resurrecting an old thread...i always got more info out of this one than just 'what are you listening to now,' since people would take a bit more time choosing their five and talking about the choices a bit.
