Chris's answer to the questions: !. We have no real record of what flogging was like in regards to crucifixion. Certainly there is no Biblical evidence that Jesus was turned into hamburger meat. 2. The chalice, like the flogging scene, was probably Gibson's invention- perhaps to signify his crime o...

I am studying Hebrew and Judaism in order to convert. I take classes at the conservative shul here in Knoxville, and I'm doing a lot of reading on my own. Two questions: How much (if anything) do they charge for the Hebrew classes, and do you have to be converting to anything to take them? Hebrew l...

Ophelia, do you think you could ask Chris my original question that started this post? That's really all I wanted to know when I posted this thread. I had no idea that THIS thread would be used to discuss Christianity, historically speaking and otherwise. I thought someone else might start a thread ...

Something I received in an email today: Roman Catholic Biblical Scholar Calls Gibson's "Passion" Anti-Jewish, Theologically Flawed and Historically Dubious New York, NY - (February 25, 2004) Father Gerald Caron, Professor of Biblical Studies at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax, calls Mel G...

The Bible was not the only recource cited for the depictions in this film....many catholic, roman and Jewish scripts are cited. I wonder which Jewish resources are cited. I've never heard of a Jewish source that documents anything to do with Jesus. This movie was not made to push faith on anyone......

The Passion of the Christ movie

Hey, I've got a question. I was wondering: Many, many people were crucified during the time of the Roman Empire. Was Jesus's pre-crucifixion torture unusual or par for the course? I don't know much about this topic on historical perspective. However, I do know that the people walking to their own cr...

"Your Cloud," by Tori Amos, off of her Scarlett's Walk CD. I was listening to it right around the time I was getting divorced. The song is about splitting up and deciding who gets what, and it uses rain as a metaphor. That's the only song that's made me cry since I was an emotional teenage basket ca...
