Calvaire aka "The Ordeal"

Postby mehem » Wed Jan 12, 2005 4:49 pm

Could be this year's Haute Tension/Saw/Machinist,the credits read like a who's who in french cinema, cinematographer from Irreversible, screenwriter from Man Bites Dog(love that film),and stars Brigitte Lahaie(if you know who she is,shame on you  )and Philippe Nahon from Haute Tension,Irreversible, and La Pacte Des Loups(Brotherhodd of the Wolf).Earned rave reviews (and one bad review)at the Toronto Film Festival.

P.S. ck out Creep on the side of the page too, looks promising as does other Toronto stand outs:Trauma(not Argento),White Skin, and Rahtree.

Another one that looks good (sounds good anyway) is one from Australia called Wolf Creek, that is based on a serial killer who murdered some backpackers back in the 1980's I believe. Supposed to have that same cold, unrelenting feel that Haute had. Part of the Sundance Festival this year.

Yeah,I'm looking forward to Wolf Creek.Ivan Milat was the inspiration.Brutally killed seven backpackers, even decapitated one with a saber. From all what I've read,a lot of the true story is there, there isn't supposed to be a drastic change.I hope not,Ivan was brutal enough that the story doesn't need any imbelishment.

For anyone interested in the story of Ivan Milat,go to
http://www.crimelibrary.com he's under serial killers/sexual predators.

 killer...let me know if the tape is bad ...i think you'll be quite surprised( i paced w/ giddiness somewhat for a while after watching it),not a lot of "horror"...but the circumstances are quite horrific....like i said "holywood" would not do this film....

"Gloria. Why did you come back?"

"you got a ticket to ride?"

"if you find her, you can do whatever you want to her"

"shutup, bitch" "sing better"

"calvin, come back.....untie me"

"where's my axe?"

"i've come to warn you...i will be happy from now on"

as you can tell i've watched it a few times... :)

Well that was a nasty little piece of business. Not nasty in the sense of overwhelming gore, but more in a sense of "Deliverence ain't got nothing on this shit."

Shared sorrow, shared dimentia..."Gloria...Why did you come back?" Definately an "Oh shit" moment.

 yeah it definately one upped deliverance(the whole scope of it is unreal),w/ the piggy moment as well as the village itself....i now put it in the upper echelon of backwoods flicks w/ titles like deliverance,tcm,2000 maniacs, rituals, race w/ the devil, and madman...

best crying or whiner moments(he was in w/ a friend like harry,a nice little thriller) since the kid in the wheelchair in living hell...

(living hell trailer can be found above, just continue to the site)
